Past Gigs - 2008

6th September 2008 - 333 Motherbar, Old Street, London

The last gig we were to play with bassist Marc Shackman and it was his show without a shadow of a doubt. It was also the very first time we played at the trendy 333 motherbar at Old Street London. Only two bands played on the night with DonkeyBox headlining.

A special treat was Marc's cover version of the Chili Peppers song "Pea" and we had quite a crowd singing along to that song. We concluded with our killer last song "The Score".

26th August 2008 - The Comedy, Leicester Square London

This gig was marked by an extra bit of publicity thanks to the design of a cracking flyer by bassist Marc Shackman, who also officially announced his departure from the band on this show.

The colourful flyer had been designed in the style of the Blur album. As for the gig itself, there were only 3 bands playing at this gig and one of the other bands was a college band giving this gig a high Imperial presence as we met up with some old friends.

19th July 2008 - The Dry Bar, Barbican, London

This gig will forever go down in DonkeyBox's history as the gig that set us free, it was our most energy filled set performed to date ever. We jumped around the stage and were so relaxed it was unbelievable! As musicians we tend to concentrate on getting the music right, but after 6 years playing live we know our songs so well that we are set free from musical perfection :-)

We finished off our set with "The Score" and many in the audience remarked that that particular performance was the best they had ever seen. This was because it was beyond a shadow of a doubt our best gig ever.

17th June 2008 - The Comedy, Leicester Square, London

We were back at The Comedy for our third gig and it did not dissapoint by any means.

We tested out something that we have never done at this gig before in the history of DonkeyBox's entire existence. We went into a gig without a full band practice. The last time the band met together was at the last gig at The Dry Bar! Yes that's right, for this gig we just turned up, plugged in and played....played to our and your heart's content :-)

22nd May 2008 - The Dry Bar, Barbican, London

This gig was a true landmark for us, it represented a marked lift in the way we perform live. We were on fire in this gig, no doubt it and this time we were not half shy to share it with the audience.

We were alive on stage and ripped through our set song by song. The Moment is now a fully matured tune and has had plenty of great feedback. It was good to see you all there, muchos thanks!

18th April 2008 - The Dry Bar, Barbican

"I don't really remember much of the gig to be honest... was WAY too drunk..." was what one of the bandmembers quoted the next day on email, and this sums it up!

Apologies to those who had to leave early and many many thanks to those who stayed on and supported us, a testament to your hardcore support! This was one of our best planned gigs that went more and more out of plan as the night approached. First off it was supposed to be at Leonards, the venue went bust and then we got rescheduled to The Dry Bar for 10.30pm. Two extra bands got added on to the bill so we went on stage at 11.45pm extremely drunk. It was all filmed on live video to be available on our youtube soon, for your viewing pleasure only.

22nd March 2008 - The Dry Bar, Farringdon, London

While the Purple Turtle gig was followed by an earthquake, our Dry Bar gig was followed by beautiful snowfall in your own London town. On the easter weekend Saturday, we launched a brand *new* song called The Moment. For the first time in three years we also re-ordered our set list completely, opening with the T2/Set Me Free combo.

Not only that.....but it was all filmed in glorius video for your pleasure. We will be releasing "The Moment" live at The Dry Bar very very shortly, keep your eyes peeled for that moment.

25th February 2008 - The Purple Turtle, Camden, London

Apparently there was an earthquake at 1am a few hours after our gig the UK.... and we reckon that the start of it can be traced back to 8.30pm on Monday at the Purple Turtle when your favourite London based rock band took to the stage :-) As usual, we absolutely blew the doors off the place with one of the most energetic sets we have played to date. From the initial ear-bleeding drum beats of the Terminator theme (our signature cover!) to the final window-shattering notes of The Score we were on FIRE!

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to all of our amazing fans who turned up to show us their support - you make the band more than we do!

10th January 2008 - The Dry Bar, Farringdon, London

DonkeyBox are now an unstoppable machine and this gig was living proof of that. This gig was originally scheduled at Leonards but due to a bereavement tragedy it got cancelled, but were we going to be phased by this?, hell no, never! So we negotiated a last minute slot at The Dry Bar.

This gig was amazing, we had the largest audience of the night and everyone was attentive to our set like glue, they sang along to Set Me Free and Crap Day. The Dry Bar, we love you!

Past Gigs - 2007

8th December 2007 - The Dry Bar, Farringdon, London

We landed ourselves a Saturday gig. This hadn't happened for over 4 years! There were many new people who were there at the gig and we delivered a total stormer of a performance even as the opening act. We kicked off with an original and unique version of the theme tune from the movie The Terminator. We kept delivering a tight and entertaining set climaxing with The Score. Those who were there will never forget what they saw and heard.

28th November 2007 - Emergenza Music Festival, Bull & Gate, Kentish Town, London

What we achieved in this gig was simply unbelievable. To get through to the next round of the world's biggest music festival we had to impress the audience and have enough of our own supporters to vote us through to the next round. With just 4 of our true supporters in the audience we didn't get through on the night, but we impressed the organisers enough to get entry into the next round via the wildcard method. In short, we rock!

23rd October 2007 - dBs, Imperial College Union, London

On a complete roll after a gig on the week before, we got a headline slot at Imperial again! We did our exact set from the week before. Too bad the sound engineering on the night was terrible, though the band did make a sweet live video of Crap Day which is available on youtube.

16th October 2007 - dBs, Imperial College Union, London

We played at this special charity gig raising money for rainforests in Peru. This was a landmark gig for us as we played our longest set to date, with a full 45mins of songs including all five of our current originals and some cover songs that included an awesome rendition of the Terminator 2 theme.

4th Septmeber 2007 - The Comedy, Liecester Square, London

By playing a date in the month of September gig for the first time ever the band set a new record. On a day marred by strikes the band defied all odds and bought in the biggest crowd of the night. This gig was also the first one in which a re-union between Matthew Jones, Michael Pidgeon and Atul Rana took place. The three hadn't gigged together in donkeybox since February 2004.

14th June 2007 - The Grosvenor, Stockwell, London

After a gruelling month and half in the recording studio for the first time ever, the band had come up with their first ever studio demo. And we were sure excited as hell about distributing it! This gig was billed as the official EP launch named Backstage Pass. It was our first gig south of the river in London and thanks to the help of Indee on lead guitar and Polish Mike on drums we pulled out a cracker of a set. Our cd went down a storm and we gave out plenty of free copies. This gig marked a new era in the band as we now have a marketable product to distribute at gigs and a sure means of promoting the true sound of the band.

10th March 2007 - dBs, Imperial College Union

Box, Box, Box, Box! The chant began as we hit the stage, and much like our legendary performance on the same spot over two years ago at Rock Idols, we shook dBs to the ground with a performance that injected vicious energy into the audience. Three of our songs, from the bright/happy sounding Crap Day to the melancholic and emotive Set Me Free and then the atmospheric hard rock attack of The Score, summed up our message of the night, we meant business! And that we sure did, our performance was broadcast on internet radio and the effects of that will surely reverberate into the future. For those who were there, we salute you!

30th January 2007 - dBs, Imperial College Union

For those of you who couldn't make it, DonkeyBox came out of the shadows to play a one off gig at Imperial College Student Union on Tuesday night. It was a special gig for a number of reasons - the first of the New Year, our first gig as a 3 piece, the first time we played a BRAND SPANKING NEW SONG!!, and we were fortunate enough to be photographed by the immensely talented Jide Alakija!

We stormed on stage with 'Society Made Me This Way', followed by a cover of Green Day's 'When I Come Around'. Calmed down a bit with our very own 'Crap Day', before Marc sang (for the very first time live on stage ever in the history of the world ever!!) 'Pea' (by Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) before leading the rest of the band into a spot on rendition of 'Californication'. We then played our brand new song 'Set Me Free' to a great reaction, and finished up on the rocking 'The Score'! So all in all, one hell of a set!

Past Gigs - 2006 (Total gigs played: 6)

9th December 2006 - Clayponds Student Residences, South Ealing, London

A very unusual gig in that it was played under the donkeybox banner. This was a uinque gig done at a student party in the freezing cold indoors tent. The crowd was ecstatic, there were over 300 students enjoying the manic sounds of donkeybox. Thanks to people who helped us out to make this gig possible, especially stand in lead guitarist Carlos and bassist Matt.

19th November 2006 - Bull and Gate, Kentish Town, London

Thanks for everyone for coming down, this gig was bigger and better. For now the photos are all available on http://photos.neil.be/donkeybox

8th November 2006 - The Comedy, Leicester Square, London

Great gig, the students were back in their masses, we had the biggest crowd and we had two photographers shooting us all night on stage. Their results were absolutely amazing, a whole set of arty black and white shots which to this date are still being used for band publicity.

15th August 2006 - HMV Oxford Street, London

This was certainly the most high profile venue we have so far played at. Just finding out about this Rock and Play event sponsored by Nokia, we went out unrehearsed and incomplete (Aaron and Jim were away from London). This was a totally unique gig done at the biggest music store in one of the biggest cities of the world. We played Crap Day and Californication and won over the people who were listening out in the streets.

Enjoy our version of Crap Day played, click here to download it. It was a sunny day out there, and true enough, a sunny day just can't be wasted.

9th June 2006 - dBs, Imperial College Union, London

Many thanks to Indee for helping out temporarily on drumz. We headlined this gig at Imperial and although due to the timing and the hot weather outside the audience numbers were low, we sure had a blast!

3rd March 2006 - dBs, Imperial College Union, London

Back to rock with full venom was the message with this one. This was the bands first gig after a long break from gigging and the band needed to re-establish itself as the supreme rock force. And so they did, in true style, introducing a brand new original song, Rock N Roll Evolution and also playing a well recieved cover of the GnR classic Sweet Child. The band set-list has now grown to have six originals, bring more of them on!

Past Gigs - 2005 (Total gigs played: 9)

9th December 2005 - dBs Imperial College Union, London

A very unusual and special gig played by the band in difficult circumstances. Lead singer Atul's father had passed away and he had to be in India during this gig. He'd asked the band to respect it's gigging commitments and so Aaron took lead vocal duties for just this one gig. The show must go on and it sure did on this night.

25th October 2005 - Imperial College Union , London

Back in action at our home turf in the Imperial Union we gave dBs the DonkeyBox deciBels by delivering the heaviest and most electric set. For the first time in our history we had a cordless guitar system and boy did Marc use his cordless freedeom to the max. In a true mark (or Marc even) of showmanship he went into the audience to spread the donkeybox magic amongst the audience, awesome, rock on! Many thanks as always to ours supporters and Jazz & Rock at Imperial.

9th October2005 - Lark In The Park, Islington, London

Awesome, awesome gig. We played second band out of four. it was a totally mad and packed gig in a small intimate venue, we had the biggest crowd and support their by a long shot, and many thanks for everyone for being there including the Imperial College crew. Marc our new bassist made his debut with donkeybox as new bassist and recieved a great ovation from the crowd for it.

4th October 2005 - dBs, Imperial College Union (Freshers Fair), London

Donkeybox played just after lunchtime to the wide-eyed freshers of Imperial College. After a bit of a shaky start (after all it was Marc's first gig, and the first time we had played together since june) we managed to pull in an impressive crowd into dB's, and pelt out some high-voltage rock in the only way we know how.

21st June 2005 - dBs, Imperial College Union, London

Our second headline gig in the year and boy what a hot day it was. This was the last gig Atul and Al played at the union as students and it was a very special occassion for them. It was also drummer Mike's birthday and happy birthday was sung all round by everyone! We also had a special treat for everyone, playing a cover version of the Metallica classic Master of Puppets with Ember Daze bassist Al Ings. What a way to end our gigging season! Thanks to all our supporters who came, Al Ings for playing bass, Al Horton for rescuing DonkeyBox during all these gigs over the last few months. The Jazz & Rock scene will be missed by all of us.

3rd June 2005 - dB , Imperial College Union, London

The most awesome gig night this year! We graced the stage second as the heaviest band of the night and rocked it all out to the max. This was also the first time we had a band banner hanging on top of Mike, our drummer for a bit of band marketing!

It was a pleasure to hear from people that our performances are getting better and tighter with each gig. We played along with Cielo Azul, Dollface, Ember Daze, Hoochie Coos, 40 Acres and Andy Thorpe's Blues Bitches. As always an enormous thanks to everyone who was there to make the effort to come up to the union and support us!

7th May 2005 - dBs, Imperial College Union (RockSoc Night), London

DonkeyBox opened up on a night of awesome rock and metal from some pretty hot bands. We played along with Gripshift, Bates Motel and Liquid Sky. A live recording of this gig was made and is the basis of our demo now. Many thanks to all supporters, Al for playing bass again and the RockSoc crew.

15th March 2005 - dBs, Imperial College Union, London

Supported by The Pyramids of SNAFU, Dead Karma, Breville De Mille and Zulfikar.

This is the first time we headlined a gig at Imperial Union and we had no intention of dissapointing. Our performance was a massive improvement from our earlier days. We blasted away with all our original tunes and climaxed the night with a total rocker. It was an awesome experience for us as we got some singalong, dancing, headbanging and even hints of moshing going along in the audience. We still remain the only college band to get people to mosh along to our own stuff and we're rather proud ;-) Many thanks to everyone who came, people who have sent us photos, all the other bands, the Jazz & Rock crew and Al for playing bass for us.

3rd March 2005 - The Quad, London School of Economics Union, Holborn, London

Supported Dollface with LSE's Celestino, Hemant Grover and Hilary Cohn. Awesome night, many thanks to all the Imperial crew who were down there, to Dollface, the other acts, roadie Markus and to Al for playing bass for us!

Past Gigs - 2004

3rd December 2004 - Rock Idols at Imperial College Union

What a wicked night this was. We will certainly not forget this one for quite a long while! We played as the FINAL band of the night at 12.40am. By this time dBs was capacity packed and the crowd was already pretty high from the amazing music before and booze. We blasted away with "Crapday" and "Crackhead", getting the audience to sing along with us. We finished off with "Pointless". The moshing in the crowd and energy was awesome, stewards had to control the audience both on and off stage and we have now officially been branded as Imperial's most "dangerous" band.

Thanks to all our supporters for coming, apologies to the ones who had to leave before 12am without hearing us. Thanks also to the organisers of Rock Idols. We will be back!

25th November 2004 - Gig Night at Imperial College Union

This was a truly great gig for us. In our brand new line-up we played 5 songs including 2 of our own and the feedback was great. Many thanks to everyone who attended, took pictures and also to the Jazz and Rock committee for organising the night
